Doug Young, Ph.D.
Principal

Dr. Young has 30 years of experience as a medical affairs executive... marketing executive... medical researcher... and consultant, with expertise in medical marketing and the medical-commercial interface. He excels at guiding and supporting pharmaceutical and medical device companies in:

  • Building and redesigning medical teams
  • Maximizing the efficiency, effectiveness, and deployment of existing medical teams
  • Optimizing the value of medical teams to the organization and broader healthcare community.

Since 2011 Dr. Young has been a Principal at Visight Associates, a consulting firm specializing in the healthcare industry. In this role he provides strategic advice and operational support to numerous industry clients.

Previously Dr. Young served as Vice President of Global Medical Affairs and leader of the Global Field Medical Center of Excellence at Bristol-Myers Squibb. In this capacity he drove organizational change efforts focused on improving the effectiveness and productivity of Medical teams worldwide.

He also led the Field Medical team in the US and in this role he was responsible for leading a team of more than 200 Medical professionals covering all therapeutic areas. Previously, he led the teams responsible for the Medical Education, Charitable Giving and Patient Assistance functions and the Neuroscience Field Medical team of more than fifty individuals.

Prior to that Dr. Young held Marketing roles in Cardiovascular, Neuroscience and Diabetes. He served as the Senior Director of Marketing for Plavix, responsible for Payer, Hospital and Specialty marketing. He established and led the Abilify Marketing team, and served as a Director of Marketing for the Avandia and Glucophage brands.

Before joining Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dr. Young worked for six years at the Sandoz Research Institute (currently Novartis), where he led a research team focused on the discovery of new medications for diabetes.

He completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Pharmacology and his post-doctoral training in the Department of Medicine at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, where he later became an Assistant Research Professor.

Dr. Young has received numerous awards and honors and has served as an invited speaker at many industry conferences. He has also served on numerous non-profit boards and is the author of more than 35 scientific publications.
